Our Story
Shir Bruin is UCLA's Jewish A Cappella Choir. In partnership with Hillel at UCLA, Shir Bruin was formed nine years ago by students who loved to sing, arrange and perform Jewish music. Today, Shir Bruin is the premier Jewish a cappella group on the west coast, and a majority of our music is arranged by current or former members.
Shir Bruin is comprised of a diverse group of singers from a variety of Jewish backgrounds. Our members are UCLA students, young professionals and students from other L.A. area colleges.
Shir means song in Hebrew, and our repertoire consists of traditional Jewish music, Jewish-themed songs, Israeli pop arrangements, Yiddish tunes and even some secular a cappella melodies. Shir Bruin sings throughout the year in a wide variety of settings. Our performances include Shabbat programs, Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremonies and receptions, cocktail parties, gala dinners, holiday performances, fundraisers, synagogue programs, multi-cultural events and more! We can even customize our repertoire for your particular needs.
